Hello,
I have lived in SLO county my entire life. That might not be feasible if the housing shortage and housing prices continue
on their current trajectory. We need more flexible zoning, density and less dependency on single occupant vehicles.
Downtown SLO was built to function as a dense walkable urban core. If you look at the older building they were
designed as such. I see a lot of people complaining about the increased strain on the infrastructure. If you increase the
amenities downtown along with the housing that will mean fewer car trips and a more connected community.
People talk about persevering the small town feel and the beauty of nature. Sprawling overbuilt developments will do
the opposite. People my age a begging for a place to live a car free transit heavy environment. We are trying to stay
around for another 50 years but unless you make the radical beneficial change we cannot do that. SLO is a pioneer for
that change but I'm the last 15 years has fallen short of their once great pioneering spirit.
Thank you,
Carter McGowen
