Greetings,
These are a few of my thoughts and observations on the use of sidewalks and streets for pedestrian, bicycle and
car traffic.
1) Walking is the most fundamental form of human movement and should be the primary consideration for
safety.
Not everyone can ride a bike or has a place to store one.
The three separations, ped, bike, car, down town on Higuera and Marsh are ideal and the best.
2) Pedestrians and bicycle riders are NOT a good combination on sidewalks, better to have the bikes in the
street.
When my wife and I walk on our sidewalks by Laguna Lake we constantly look over our shoulders in
order not to be startled or hit by a high speed bike. Many bikers don't give a warning and pass by within
inches at 10 to 15 miles an hour or more.
3) The new bicycle pathways are so inconsistent and unpredictable that I see bicyclists going anywhere and
everywhere.
4) The new style intersections like the one at Madonna and Dalidio are clumsy at best.
The "drive over" extended curbs makes right hand turns problematic both before and after the turn, not
sure why they are even there.
Also "right on red" traffic pretty much never stops before the new very wide white and green crossing
strips, they pull up to where they can actually see and be safe, blocking both pedestrian and bike crossings.
5) I don't understand the new street extensions on Dalidio and Froom Ranch. There was a clean slate to divide
all three forms of traffic separately yet bike traffic is on and off the streets and sidewalks throughout.
