Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Mayor and Council, First, thank you all for being so open and engaging. It means a lot to me personally to be able to engage with you after some dismal years. I hope I can be of value to the city I love. ------- It's still not too late to pull the plug on the "Anholm" bikeway. It is a waste of money. Put the money in places where it will save lives. The design principle is to make cycling safer so that people will cycle more. Personally, in my hundreds of trips on the Broad St. segment, I have never felt the least bit unsafe. I have said this publicly innumerable times over the course of this project's development. It is probably the safest section of shared roadway in town. The segment is nearly accident free despite its heavy use. What actually makes me increasingly reluctant to ride my bike is not the absence of a Greenway on North Broad but the continuing news of bike fatalities, none of which have ever taken place on North Broad. https://www.ksby.com/news/local-news/bicyclist-killed-in-collision-with-vehicle-in-san-luis-obispo I realize that a lot of people who fought for this, including an overly-aggressive staff, will be disappointed, but a bad idea is a worse idea when the price triples, as it has in this case. Please do not fund this. Rework the project to improve the Peach-Lincoln and Ramona-Ferrini segment only. Put the savings to good use preventing fatalities. BTW, why is this on the consent agenda? Such a large increase in cost needs to see the light of public comment. In the interests of transparency please hear this item. The three council votes that aggressively promoted this boondoggle, which only passed 3-2, are no longer on council. Let wiser councilmembers prevail. I dare say it would fail 4-1 if properly reconsidered. Thank you for your consideration. Bob Shanbrom 2013 Bike SLO Volunteer of the Year e-bike commuter 1
