Bike lanes are closely in line with the City's master plan and provide numerous health benefits to the whole community. Moreover, it's a difficult analysis, but evidence clearly shows that transit infrastructure that incentivizes dense neighborhoods and walkability will be a profitable investment in the city, and we will recoup the money we spend on this project. I know that I will benefit - I cross the highway on Chorro street across the highway several times a week to see friends, shop on the other side of town, and hike at Madonna. I am an aerospace engineer at a small company based in SLO, and I want to let you know that our company, too, has struggled in the face of increased costs over the last few years. I've also been working on a large project with a similar price tag. Large projects like these are difficult to accurately price and quote, especially in our rapidly changing market. But our company's contracts are halfway through, and we've spent lots of time and effort to plan ahead to be able to finish our contract strong. Due to several unseen factors, this current contract won't be as profitable as we would have liked. But it would be patently ridiculous for us to close up shop and refuse to deliver on what our customers have ordered, simply because it became too expensive. Delivering solutions is our job. SLO citizens have voted and asked for better infrastructure. It is the city's job to deliver the infrastructure that we've asked for. And while the higher price tag is a concern, this should be considered only a minor hurdle to moving forward. We will have to stretch more than we expected to fund this project, but the costs and delays are minor compared to how much the city would lose if we stopped this project. We need to finish this project, and I strongly urge you to approve the additional funding needed. Thanks for listening, John Little 1
