Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear San Luis Obispo City Council Members, I appreciate your serving our community and understand that there are lots of facets that must be considered when allocating and prioritizing public funding. That said, I hope to add my voice of support for the reallocation of funds from other project to see the North Chorro Neighborhood Greenway project through to completion. Personally I have seen how the addition of cycling and pedestrian amenities across the community have greatly increased the number of people who now feel comfortable using an alternative form of transportation other than a car. Its so pleasant to be able to get ‘here and there’ without having to use a car. Its saves me money, reduces emissions, provides a sense of community as well as providing a safer passageways for those of us who either opt not to use a car, or are otherwise unable to use one. The North Chorro Neighborhood Greenway project has the potential to realize these benefits, on a route that is currently used, and has the potential for increased usage, for those who walk and bike to school, shopping and work. This project is one of many Tier 1 projects identified in the San Luis Obispo Active Transportation Plan that once completed, will make it viable to live here without having to use a car for every trip. (Tier 1 corridors have potential to serve roughly 70% of citywide trips, at least for a majority of the trip length. ) One ‘opponents’ justification for not finding the funds for the project is that there are other areas that they perceive as having greater need than this one. However, as previously mentioned, this project is a designated Tier 1 Bicycle and Pedestrian project which is an integral part of the larger plan. The answer is NOT to shelve this mostly grant-funded project in favor of another, but to continue to seek additional grants and opportunities to fund all of the tier 1 projects (while not losing the $1.9M grant funds specifically tied to this project). Please take actions as necessary to fund this project. I sincerely hope that the project shortfall does not result in a delay, change or reduction of project scope.
