Dear San Luis Obispo City Council Members,
I am reaching out to express my support for the North Chorro Neighborhood Greenway. This project is a critical pathway
between the Foothill area and Downtown, and it’s completion will provide a safe way for bicyclists, runners, and
pedestrians to travel between these two community hubs.
I have been working in SLO for 7 years and recently moved into the city itself thanks to a recently completed workforce
housing project. Each day, I bike from my home with my toddler in tow to her school and my work. I am only able to
safely do this thanks to the protected bike paths through downtown SLO and the adjacent areas. Having highly visible
road distinctions or, even better, a physical barrier separating my little girl and I from motor vehicles gives me the peace
of mind to choose a bicycle and trailer as my own daily commuter. By providing additional safe routes for active
transportation, you can support and encourage other daily commuters from all life stages wanting to make a similar
choice.
Beyond safety and accessibility, moving forward with the North Chorro project will also further alleviate the parking
pressures in downtown SLO, support Cal Poly’s sustainable commute initiative for students, and meaningfully contribute
to SLO City’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2035. Without this important active transportation artery, all of those goals
become further out of reach.
I can’t wait to see and utilize the North Chorro Neighborhood Greenway. We’ve witnessed these greenways encourage
more foot and bicycle traffic in different areas of the City, revitalizing their communities and encouraging more
neighborly interactions. But, this is only possible for the Anholm neighborhood with supportive actions from you, the
city council members of San Luis Obispo.
Please continue to support and fund the North Chorro Neighborhood Greenway to promote healthy transportation
choices, improve neighborhood safety, and implement effective climate action.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Suzie Freeman, a SLO City resident and workforce member
