Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear San Luis Obispo City Council Members, I am writing to express my continued support for the North Chorro Neighborhood Greenway. We need to get this project done, and I am urging you to approve the additional funding required to make it happen. This project has been in the planning and discussion phases for too long. A few loud opponents have delayed progress on making safer infrastructure and safer routes to schools on north Chorro for years. Now the cost of the project has increased and they are using that as an excuse to throw out years of community discussion and advocacy to beautify one of the major thoroughfares between the Foothill corridor and downtown. I urge you to listen to past city councils and a majority of city residents in completing this project. We have worked too hard for too long to have it fail now. As a car driver, pedestrian, and cyclist who regularly travels on Chorro from my home near Bishop Peak to Downtown I strongly support the improvements in the North Chorro Greenway. Further, I will have two kids at SLOHS next year who will also need to travel on Foothill to Ramona to north Chorro to get to and from school. I urge you to move forward with the pedestrian, lighting and bicycling improvements, as planned, so that teens going from our neighborhood to the high school can bike or walk to school safely, without being harassed by drivers for taking the lane on the sharrows. Many of the other mothers in my neighborhood I have spoken to and who have kids at SLOHS or Mission will not allow their kids to bike to school because of safety reasons and conflicts with bikes and cars. Rightly so! We have had too many deaths in SLO City where people on bikes have been hit and killed by drivers. It does not have to be that way and we should be doing everything we can to make SLO a walkable and bikeable city for the most vulnerable among us. Thank you for your tireless work to make SLO a great place to live and for voting to fully fund the North Chorro Greenway Project. Sincerely, Shannon Klisch SLO City Resident (nearest cross streets: Foothill & Patricia) 1
