Dear Mayor Stewart and council members,
I’m sorry to send yet another email to you, but just need to clarify my position.
As a retired nurse, mom and grandma, I am totally for safety, and doing what we can to protect our kids.
From Lincoln, under the 101, to downtown could probably use some work.
Along Foothill definitely needs something done.
But disrupting the neighborhoods along Broad and Chorro is totally unnecessary. Not when there is the very viable
option of Lincoln available.
An option that would only need a few bike stencils painted.
To spend beyond the city’s budget, is not being responsible.
And when there are other cheaper, less disruptive options they should be seriously considered.
I hope you’ve tried to envision the scenario you’d be creating with the proposed plan…children on bikes, riding in
opposing directions right next to each other, with an elderly resident trying to back out of the very narrow driveway
they’re forced to park in, since they lost their street parking.
They have to back through the bike lane into the traffic lane, dodging trash bins on trash day. (I still haven’t heard the
plan on trash day. Do they put their bins in the bike lane, or the traffic lane?)
Anyway, if you can envision this, sadly it seems a tragedy is almost guaranteed.
The other scenario I see, is one of our residents, having to park across the street from their home, because they lost
their street parking. They’re schleping their groceries across the street and get hit by a car, or a bike, or trip over the
obstacles the city placed in their paths.
What is the city’s liability in disrupting a neighborhood and creating such dangerous obstacles?
While there is a simple and safer alternative on Lincoln.
Please, do not ram the proposed plan through.
Anything worth doing is doing right, and this plan is so wrong.
Thanks again, sorry to bother you with so much reading material, but at least mine aren’t copied and pasted like so
many of the others are…
