HomeMy WebLinkAbout1698 Wilson Sup th On Monday morning October 17, 2022, at approximately 0600 hours I received a call from dispatch requesting an investigator for a fire off the 101 between the Grand St and California St off-ramps. I responded to the fire after stopping by the station to collect my equipment and met with Captain Jason PRATT on scene in front of 1698 Wilson St and he provided me first on scene information. He took me over to the scene and I observed a 10ft by 10 ft burn area in the foliage off the freeway along the fence and extending into a shed located at 1698 Wilson St. I then drove around to the freeway side for better access to the fire scene and documented my approach and each side of the burned area with photographs. In the burned area I observed vehicle parts, pots for cooking, batteries, burn patterns at the base of the surrounding trees and brush, and a nearby tree with some scraped bark. The burn patterns indicated the fire extended from the brush area to the shed nearby as the inside of the shed had protected areas with burn patterns coming in from the eaves and minimal combustibles and no electrical inside. The ignition source was likely an external ignition source based on the lack of any available ignition sources found and the spread was caused by reckless burning. The weather conditions were too cold and moist for cigarette ignition of dry material and there was no lightning in the area within a 24-hour period. No electrical was in the area of origin, such as no overhead power lines.
