HomeMy WebLinkAboutSalinas Dam - City of SLO SUPPORT Letter March 22, 2023 The Honorable Salud Carbajal Member of Congress 2331 Rayburn House Office Building Washington, D.C. 20515 Re: County of San Luis Obispo Community Project Funding Request – Salinas Dam Feasibility Study Dear Congressman Carbajal: On behalf of the City of San Luis Obispo, I write to express the City’s strong support for the County of San Luis Obispo’s requests for Community Project Funding (CPF) for the Salinas Dam Feasibility Study. Our community is reliant upon water from Salinas Reservoir to supply safe, reliable, affordable drinking water to the City’s 47,545 residents who reside here today and also to future generations of community members. Additionally, this water supply is critical in supporting regional operations such as the County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the County Airport, and various other operations that are critical to the success of our region. The proposed project is aimed at helping our City and the central coast region develop long-term drought resiliency and maintain the high level of resiliency that is required in a state with varying climatic conditions. Since the early 1940s the City has been reliant on water from Salinas Reservoir and this water supply has helped the City endure periods of extended drought, maintaining the economic vitality of not only the City but the entire County and Central Coast. Your support for this effort is greatly appreciated. We appreciate your consideration and thank you for your efforts on our behalf. Sincerely, Erica A. Stewart Mayor City of San Luis Obispo
