To: Mayor Stewart and Council Members Francis, Marx, Pease and Shoresman From: Myron Amerine, San Luis Obispo resident April 4, 2023 Re: April 4 Agenda, Consent Calendar 5f, Buchon and Toro Please authorize the advertisement of the Buchon Neighborhood Traffic Management Plan. I am a resident of the 1100 block of Islay Street and either walk or bicycle the intersection of Toro and Buchon streets nearly every day and sometimes multiple times a day. The much needed neighborhood traffic circle at this intersection is expected to reduce traffic speeds and volume. My experience is that the majority of motorists on Buchon do not slow down or wait for bicyclists or pedestrians on Toro Street to cross. I often wait for several minutes – more during rush hour – to wait until the traffic has cleared so I can safely cross. This is a safety and quality-of-life issue. Thank You. see attached: San Luis Obispo Police Department on Twitter: "1/2 Tuesday at 7:48 pm, SLOPD and @SLOCityFire responded to the intersection of Toro & Buchon where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. The driver remained at the scene & was cooperative, drugs/alcohol were not a factor. https://t.co/NUOFaFuZNw" / Twitter 1
