Subject:Removing the parking spaces along 1965 Santa Barbara Ave

To the current sitting council,
The idea of removing the 11 parking spaces along Santa Barbara Ave near street number 1965 for
safety reasons is laughably dumb. There are 2 sidewalks, 2 bike lanes, a center divider for turning
and, as far as I know, the number of accidents along that section of Santa Barbara is nonexistent.
The number of intersections you've already mangled with the new extended sidewalks, bike lanes
and reduced turning abilities is already becoming insane in SLO. Here I reference the mess that was
made of the intersection between Target and Costco. Removing the U-Turn ability while going west
on LOVR so you can get into Whole Foods easily has made the 4-way stop inside the parking lot near
Costco almost impossible. What used to be a 10 second turn around and entry into Whole Foods's
parking lot is now a 2-5 minute waste of gas and time.
Please stop trying to rid SLO of all cars. Most of SLO's patrons are not from inside SLO. They are
from all over the county and tourists who won't have bikes to ride nor the ability to get them there to
use them.
Back to Santa Barbara Avenue though: that strip of street is fine the way it is. There is literally no
cause I can see that would need the removal of those 11 spaces. I regularly patronize one of those
businesses and the rear parking lot is usually mostly full with the spaces out front being used. If you
remove them then there will be no parking for the customers of all of those businesses.
This idea to remove those spaces for some mythological safety concern is anti-business. And again, I
refer you to the 2 sidewalks, 2 bikes lanes and center divider along that section of road.
Regards,
Adam
