Good Afternoon ATC,
Thank you for your service to the City of SLO. I am reaching out to share our initial ideas and feedback on the Mill St
Greenway. I understand that you will be discussing this in the Fall but I wanted to start the conversation now. I hope you
can provide initial thoughts and feedback so this neighborhood can better understand what we can count on without
more advocacy and what issues may need more support. Here is an incomplete list of items we hope will be considered:
Mill St has become a major throughway for vehicles and there has been a significant increase in bikes and other multi-
model transportation. Since the Railway bridge was completed the amount of bike traffic has increased significantly.
Many of these bikes are also carrying our most precious little ones in bucket bikes etc. We are grateful that a Greenway
is on the way and we hope that safety and priority will be afforded to the bike traffic and not the car traffic when
considering this plan. We live on this street and would be thrilled to give up any parking to support this effort.
The intersection at Mill and Torro is terrifying and needs a four-way stop in addition to other traffic slowing measures.
There have been many accidents there and it is a non-stop near-miss situation all day. It seems to be what I would call
an intuitive four-way stop which it is not currently. Drivers coming from the freeway and stopping on the corner of Mill
and Torro are generally going at a high speed and believe that intersection to be a four-way and often proceed as such
and risk the safety of cars and bikes coming on Mill St.
We are very much hoping for trees to be installed when this project is done and I would be happy to do the work of
getting the neighbors involved and investing the sweat equity this may require.
I know this is a big ask- but it is bonkers, (I think this is the technical term
??????) that the bus is on this street. The bus goes
at a high rate of speed(even if it is not supposed to) and makes it considerably riskier for bikes in addition to the
constant air quality impacts that residents in the neighborhood receive. Airborne particles from buses can cause cancer,
premature death, and other health risks. The bus would be a better fit on Monterey where people are generally
spending a short amount of time.
There are multiple places on the street where the sidewalk is broken significantly. I was told by city staff that the
sidewalks would be repaired when this project happens. I just wanted to confirm that this is the case.

Thank you again for your service and I look forward to hearing your initial thoughts so we can know how best to
advocate.
In Gratitude, Heidi
