To whom it may concern on the San Luis Obispo City Council,
Hello, my name is Sarah Bachman, and I am a 2nd-year political science student at Cal Poly and long-time resident of SLO
County. I am writing to emphasize my concern about the high cost of rent and the general lack of rent control in San Luis
Obispo. As a student, I face the brunt of overly exorbitant housing prices; because of this, I have elected to become a
Resident Advisor for housing at Cal Poly. While this job has its benefits, the costs to my mental health and physical well-
being just from my daily job tasks far outweigh these. The high cost of living and shelter in SLO has forced me to choose
between my mental health and free housing, or impossible to pay for housing.
I hope my personal testimony regarding rent control is able to compel city council members to add this topic to the
meeting's agenda and create action against unfair and immoral housing practices in SLO.
