Hello,
I'm writing with regard to the Righetti Hill Trail and its possible designation as a hiking only trail. I disagree with this
possible outcome and fully support the Righetti Hill Trail as a multi-use trail, allowing both cyclists and hikers alike.
Here are a few reasons I believe the trail should be designated as multi-use:
1. There is plenty of room for both cyclists and hikers on this trail. There are multiple points at which either user group
can pull over and let oncoming traffic pass.
2. Islay Hill is a pre-existing hiking-only trail in this immediate area and there are no multi-use trails on the Islay/Righetti
side of town.
3. There will not be conflict issues on this specific hill that are different from any other multi use trail in SLO.
4. This is a great .8 mile trail for beginning riders, specifically kids. I believe it is important to allow access to user groups
of all skill levels.
5. Although this is a short trail, it allows riders of all abilities and time constraints to enjoy San Luis Obispo's
natural recreation, especially considering the location of the trail in relation to others.
6. Many hiking-only users will opt to drive and park in the surrounding neighborhoods to access this traill. This is already
an issue at Islay Hill, and forcing car trips goes against the city's climate action goals.
Thank you,
Carl Kunde
