Hello Mayor and City Council,
The community is always very excited and supportive when we have more trails. I’m proud to be a part of such a great
community that supports the outdoors and open space. Although I always respect the staff’s direction, it is a shame to
see that they state “Righetti Hill is not considered to be conducive to extensive mountain bike use due to its small size,
steep slopes, and generally narrow trails, but its flatter areas provide a suitable area for youth riders to begin to gain
skills and confidence in an off-road setting” especially when there have been so many more technical and steep trails
that have been built and are multi-use (M-Trail, Irish Hills/shoots and ladders). This is a great trail that is not technical
and good for beginners to learn on. We have a great community that overall has learned how to share the trails,
especially with CCCMB’s bell program at trailheads. Restricting access on the trail that goes to the summit only angers
and disappoints the mountain bike community, especially if there is no clear plan for a bike-only trail. Let the user decide
if they want to use the trail or not, please don’t restrict access because of its size or narrow paths, users should learn
how to slow down, say hi, and pass appropriately.
I am for sure excited about the perimeter loop trail that will be multi-use (and hope to see this built soon as a priority). I
also hope you can direct staff to focus on some bike-only or one-directional (i.e. downhill only trails). There are many
hiker-only trails in the City open spaces but there aren’t any bike-only trails. Many of us work hard to built these trails,
and it’s sad to see when we are restricted in using them.
Please reconsider making the Righetti Trail hiking only and consider developing some bike only trails.
Thanks for your time,
Christie O’Hara
