Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Hello Chair Mills, Committee Members, and Staff Liason Fukushima, My name is Anders, and I am a student at Cal Poly, a bicycling resident of the city, and have been involved in bike advocacy for the past two years. The foothill route is of paramount importance to student wellbeing, and I am very excited to see the committee holding discussion tonight about pedestrian and cyclist crossing improvements. Every time I talk with students about the foothill route, they echo my concerns about safety for pedestrians and cyclists. As Cal Poly administration continues to increase our campus population without limit, reducing parking and encouraging bicycle and multimodal micro mobility, I foresee escalating conflicts between cars and students accessing student areas of the city. This week I created a quick survey to gather opinions about this intersection. I advertised this form to engineers, Cal Poly Cycling Members, and Cal Poly Bike Builders. I recognize the names of many of my cycling classmates who took the time to fill out my form. I had 22 form responses, and they emphasize the following viewpoints. I have also attached a view link to my form and results, because I believe statistics should be fully transparent.  Students don't understand the bike crossing signal very well (2.3/5 )  Students don't feel that the diagonal phase works well (one commented that since it falls after the pedestrian phase, it's not worth waiting for) (1.95/5)  Students favor using buttons to the trigger box (4.05/5)  Students favor a "scramble" phase (3.77/5) BUT also are roughly split on whether strategy 1, a scramble phase, or strategy 2, a merged ped/cyclist crossing is best  Students support the addition of a crosswalk on the north side of the intersection (4.18/5) I believe the ATC is headed the right direction with modifications to this important intersection and hope this will help inform your discussion! Thank you for your time and contributions to our city, Anders Bjork 1 Form: https://forms.gle/E66GQ6pEjx91mJ6y5 Responses: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VTFVW2zIKahGLng0- K3ideSLJKHRkzY_2qSUDa3S8E0/edit?usp=sharing Google Sheets: Sign-in Access Google Sheets with a personal Google account or Google Workspace account (for business use). docs.google.com 2
