Dr. Bonnie Bruerd 39 Del Sol Court San Luis Obispo 1 Bonnie Bruerd, DrPH 39 Del Sol Court, San Luis Obispo, 93401 bonnie.bruerd@gmail.com June 13, 2023 Dear SLO Parks and Recreation Commissioners, I have spent my entire career working in public health. The first tenet of public health is to do the most good for the greatest number of people. Pickleball is a huge public health success for the city of SLO that should be celebrated by the City and Commission. I sincerely support 8 pickleball courts at Righetti. Pickleball is best served with many courts in one location because most players arrive alone and join in social play. Eight courts would provide the space for everyone to play at their own level. As you know, the current courts are full and overflowing every day with people of all ages. In just the past year, we see more and more families, students, and young adults playing at French Park all hours of the day. The numbers support building 8 courts at Righetti park. I have no doubt that the Righetti courts will be the most used facilities at this new park. Not only does pickleball contribute to the physical, mental, and social health of those who play but it also contributes to the “health” of the park, keeping it busy, thriving, and safe. Respectfully, Dr. Bonnie Bruerd
