COUNCIL COMPENSATION COMMITTEE
MONDAY, MARCH 9, 1998, 12 NOON
PLANNING CONFERENCE ROOM

I. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Penny Rappa called the meeting to order at 12 Noon
II. PRESENT:
Members: Jan Howell Marx, Pierre Rademaker, Penny Rappa, Paul
Ready
Absent: Marci Villa
Staff: City Clerk Bonnie Gawf, Personnel Director Ann Slate,
City Clerk Secretary Diane Reynolds
III. MINUTES:
Moved by Rademaker/Marx to approve the minutes of Monday, February 23, 1998 as
submitted; unanimous (Ready abstaining, Villa absent).
IV. COUNCIL COMPENSATION:
The Committee considered the draft staff report and resolution. Discussion centered
around amending wording in the draft resolution and an increase in Council salaries.
After discussion, moved by Rademaker/Ready to approve the draft resolution with the
following amendments:
A) Section 4. A. strike out "in -county expenses";
B) Section 5. B. strike out "non -local' twice;
C) Section 6. change date "...or no later than May I'.";
D) Council salary set for Council Members at $1,000 and for Mayor at $1,200; and,
E) 4" Whereas wording changed to read, "Whereas, the Council Compensation
Committee has determined that the present criteria for compensation remain valid,
however the current levels of compensation have remained unadjusted since 1989, and
that adjustment is now appropriate in light of inflation, increases in the cost of living and
the significant demands associated with the official duties of the Mayor and Council
Members;" unanimous (Villa absent).
