Subject:2600 Broad St SLO Closure Report
Dan and Clarence,
Please further clarify site investigation activities with a revised closure report with the items listed below. Feel
free to call me if I have not made my questions clear.
1. What was the control sample taken 3/25? Where was it collected, describe in the report.
2. SECOND TIME: analyticals state a sample was collected from Soil Pile E of the tank excavation, yet no data has
been added to the data table with the rest of the results from same sampling date‐ describe why? Why was it
originally stated that a sample could not be collected from Soil Pile E.
3. “Tk Bot E End @8’” is listed twice on figure‐ revise for “Tk Bot W End @8’”.
4. Add STLC/TCLP data for samples taken 3/25 including STLC of 56 for lead from “sump Tr W”.
5. Tank excavation on figure 1 still has data points for concrete slab removal including NW, NE, SW, and SE
Corners‐ remove from tank excavation on figure or better clarify where samples were collected from in body of
report.
6. Where is tabulated data for “Sump Trench West”/ lab ID 2103032‐07 from page 4 of report? Revise if it is
supposed to be referencing 2103032‐01. I see analyticals for 2103032‐01 through ‐06 in report but not on data
tables. Add data table for these soil samples. On the figure there is both a “Sump T. West Wall Sample” and a
“Sump Trench W. Side Sample”. It is very hard to determine which sample is from which sampling date and the
corresponding analyticals‐ further clarify with analytical sample number OR sampling date on figure.
7. Add description of asbestos testing of tile and brick to report from analyticals dated 4/23.
8. Page 4 of report states a concrete slab was removed and hydrocarbon impacted soil underneath the slab was
most likely from the removed fuel tank‐ is this the same fuel tank at the south end of the site? If so, there is
potentially hydrocarbon impacted soil in the middle of the two excavations remaining? Further explain. Page 5
of the report states “The area to the west and below the tanks..”, was there a second tank that was removed?
9. Do the dashed lines on figure next to the trench excavation represent soil stockpiles? If so, label. What is the
dashed line north of the tank excavation on the figure?
10. On page 5 of report it states “two verification samples were taken from excavation floor approximately 4’ east
and west of center”. Are these samples the same as “bot east @12’” and Bot west @12’”? Where are they on
the figure? I see a “top of concrete, center (‐7’)Sample” and a “below concrete (‐10)” but no samples labeled at
12’.
11. SECOND TIME: add further detail to data tables explaining area of site samples are from (e.g. pg 29 of report,
add title stating “concrete slab” or “extended trench excavation”, etc.; “NW Corner” sample could be confused
with tank excavation samples). Revise data tables or add a column for sampling date instead of date when
analytical results were received. Add data table numbers to more easily reference.
12. It would be helpful to only attach the analytical results that include the additional testing (STLC/TCLP) instead of
both the original report and the additional report unless there is information on the original report that is not
also on the additional analytical report.
Thank you,
Mattie
