I apologize for the last minute e-mail . I am out of town on business and will not be able to make it back in time for the Council meetin g tonight. I am Aaron Gomez one of the owners of The Gold Concept, the neighbor to where the SLO Bre w project will end up . I was born and raised in SLO and have now made the downtown a place for m y professional life . My family is fortunate enough to have had a downtown business for 41 years . As we all know we have seen a lot of changes both positive and negative to the Downtown area . This project in my opinion will have a great positive impact on the downtown . The aesthetics upgrades to that building are very necessary an d long overdo . As I said previously there are few people in this town that have the means and the vision to pull of f a project like this . Hamish and Todd obviously do have both . Having already passed unanimously throug h planning as well as having an overwhelming amount of support of both the musical community and downtow n businesses, the decision to move forward with this project seems to me an easy logical choice . Which is easy fo r me to say because I do not have to deal with the group that is so obviously against it "Save Our Downtown ." • Which I understand that they have some reservations, but after listening to there opinions at the last meeting a s well as interviews I am not very convinced that they have a valid argument against this project . It is not simpl y a bar, is already in existence, and has a huge draw for all types of people do to its music scene . To lose a i business like that would be a HUGE mistake for SLO . There are several bars that I would not miss or woul d hurt SLO this is most definitely not one of them . Look at the amount of employees they support for one . With SLO at a 7 .8% unemployment rate occording to september numbers to lose another 50+ jobs as well as a musi c venue and the independant contractors they help support, would not be a push in the right direction . Especiall y i f a you compare what type of retail business it would take in order to fill that many jobs . I could go on but I thin k you get the jist of my opinion . We have to look at what this business will be adding to this community : a much needed and nicer creek walkway, a huge upgrade to the back of the building iteslf, much much nicer street sid e upgrade to the building, as well as a draw for people from other communities to come to Downtown SLO fo r concerts . They have already demonstrated they are able to support some major acts with a very small venu e imaging what can be done with an upgraded sound system and dedicated concert area . I personally do not eve n like concerts, but I am smart enough to realize that live music is a very large draw for many people . With hotel s going in Downtown why not give people more reason to utilize those hotels . I am all about a sustainable divers e growth that stays relovent. Without change we have stagnation . With stagnation comes death . Our downtown cannot afford to lose a project like this based on that fear of change . Lets keep SLO unique and relovantl!!I appreciate your time and very much hope you see this project through . Just look at how much support thi s project has from the community that it most effects, downtown businesses, employees and LONG tim e residents . Thank you so much , Aaron Gomez The Gold Concept www.thegoldconcept.com 740 Higuera St . San Luis Obispo, C a .93401 2
