Subject: Support for Residential Parking Permits in Our Neighborhood now and not deferred
Dear Mayor Stewart and Council Members:
Thank you for the opportunity to share some concerns to Defer the Preferential Parking Permit District
Program.
I am writing to express my strong support for the implementation of residential parking permits in our
neighborhood now. Time is of the essence, the recent developments, including the increased presence of
bikes, multiple new rentals on Broad Street, and the growing number of students in our area, have significantly
impacted the availability of parking spaces for residents.
As a long-time resident of this neighborhood, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges posed by the
diminishing parking options. The influx of new residents and the rising number of students have resulted in a
strain on the limited parking spaces available. With each day this situation will just get worse. It causes
frustration and inconvenience for the residents but also affects the overall livability of our community.
By introducing residential parking permits now, we can establish a system that prioritizes parking access for
those who reside in our neighborhood. This will help ensure that residents have a fair opportunity to park their
vehicles near their homes, reducing the need to search for parking spaces or face the possibility of being
unable to park in their own neighborhood before the students return in the Fall.
Moreover, residential parking permits can help mitigate potential safety concerns. The increasing number of
bikes in our neighborhood has undoubtedly been a positive development for alternative transportation.
However, it is essential to strike a balance between the needs of cyclists and motorists. By implementing
residential parking permits, we can encourage responsible parking practices and enhance safety for all road
users.
I understand that implementing such a system will require careful planning and consideration. However, I firmly
believe that the benefits of residential parking permits outweigh any potential challenges and need to be
continued under current policies. Many other neighborhoods in our city have successfully implemented similar
programs, leading to improved parking conditions and enhanced quality of life for residents.
I kindly request that you take my support to continue the current residential parking permits into account when
discussing this matter. I trust in your dedication to serving the best interests of our community and appreciate
your attention to this important issue.
