Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Mr Johnson: I am writing to strongly object to the implementation by fiat of the safe parking location in the 1700 block of Palm Street without regard to the members of the community and the residents of the affected neighborhood. The lack of advance notice to this proposed action and complete lack of input from the community is appalling. 1 Specifically, can you please explain to me how blocking off a street and turning it into a parking lot does not cause disruption to the neighborhood? Palm Street is just that, a street. In all of the city-owned parking lots, you cannot find a suitable "lot", as opposed to creating one by blocking off a street? Additionally, would you be kind enough to provide a definition of "temporary"? What enforcement and safety measures will be put in place? Who will provide oversight at the proposed facility? In the Friday, August 11, 2023 issue of the The Tribune, Daisy Wiberg is quoted as follows "We have met with the Veterans Hall, and they've been supportive of us using this location". Whom, specifically, did they meet with? The Veterans Hall is not a "resident" of the neighborhood, it is a building that remains largely unoccupied for vast portions of the days, weeks, and months all year long. I find it interesting that you sought input from a non-resident with respect to the implementation of this program. Again, I ask, who was speaking on behalf of the Veterans Hall? If the city plans to go through with this proposed action, I will file and appeal. It is appalling to me that you sought no input from the citizens of the community on this issue; regardless of the fact that none was required by law. Sincerely, John L. Keller 2
