I am a local resident, living just 2 blocks from the proposed Safe Parking on Palm St. I don't know who decided this was a
viable option for the homeless to park, but they are clearly individuals who don't live in the neighborhood or know who
uses the streets and sidewalks where this is being proposed. We are a family with young grandchildren and the other
day, my grandson was jumping on some old mattress that had been dumped at the Vets Hall. We already deal with so
much riff-raff in our neighborhood, why are you subjecting us to more problems? Here is a list of people who
frequent the area you are considering for parking:
Neighbors with children and dogs who live on Palm, Grove, Mill , Phillips, Hillcrest, Wilson, Park and more.
The Vets Hall - Many events are held at this location
Cal Poly students - The students walk from campus, down Grand Ave to Palm St and Monterey to Downtown and back
home again at the end of the night
College students live across the street at Garfield Arms apartments and other neighboring apartments and houses.
Andrews St - is close by and an easy walk to the San Luis Drive neighborhood.
This decision to block off Palm St for Safe Parking will have a negative effect on the hotels and businesses on Palm,
Grand Ave and Monterey Streets. It will also have a negative effect on our property values! Designated parking for the
Homeless will be a necessary disclosure that any homeowner wanting to sell will need to disclose. And if not disclosed,
the homeowner could face a future lawsuit with a buyer. We are a neighborhood and we have worked hard to preserve
our neighborhood. I read the horrifying letters from the business owners near Railroad Square. One might have thought
this program would have worked there, but it didn't! Read the letter from Debra Collins of Del Monte Cafe and people
from the Railroad Museum! Based on these letters, I can tell you this program did not work there!!
Here are some suggestions for alternative Safe Parking locations for the homeless:
City owned parking lots and structures
Police Department
Prado Lane near the homeless shelter
Eks Lane
Bridge St
Churches
Cal Trans parking lot
Madonna Plaza
Sunset Drive In

Please consider locations other than a neighborhood. Thank you
