Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. I would like to respond to the proposed closing of Palm Street or overnight parking for the clients that do not have access to housing. My wife and I live on Palm street and I feel that closing off the street and allowing overnight parking with people that are homeless might be detrimental to the environment and the safety of the residential area. There have been many documented cases of abuse and crime due to mental illness amongst the homeless population and although I realize that there is a need to assist these individuals, I think they would be better served by being in a location that has better facilities and better access to care while not impacting the local neighborhood. Closing off the end of a residential street knee seems quite excessive to assist others in finding housing. I think our other locations around the city that are not available to the public overnight could be used as a safe parking spot for the unhoused. Those areas would not require such monitoring during the day because they are open to the public. I think it is somewhat naïve to think that there won't be a substantial amount of overlap with people either returning early or staying over late at the sides despite oversight by a person to make sure this does not occur. I support the efforts in helping but I do think that there are many other locations the city could use without impacting a residential neighborhood. Steve and Nancy Kitson 1
