SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION PLANING MEETING DATE: September 6, 2023 ITEM # 4 1700 PALM STREET (DIR-0378-2023) REVIEW OF AN INTERIM SAFE PARKING LOCATION AS PART OF THE ROTATING OVERNIGHT SAFE PARKING PROGRAM THAT INCLUDES THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF A PORTION OF PALM STREET ADJACENT TO THE SLO VETERAN’S HALL My name is Roger Larson and I own the property at 1660 Palm which is adjacent to the location of the planed Safe Street Parking. I find it hard to believe that a Program which can have such great merit is willing to make such a confrontational first step by the taking of a public street. This first step not only will be expensive to set up in a public area there will be a negative reaction instead of the desired need to help others. The presser put on the nearby residents will not be a benefit to the program.. There are other locations which would be a better example of what Safe Street Parking has to offer. Locations could include: 1  The end of Industrial Way which is more of a commercial area,  Parking lot of soccer fields in Damon-Garcia Park,  Cueata Park controlled by county,  City owned vacant property on Higuera Street. Do not start this worth while Project with the president of the taking of public residential streets. Safe Street Parking needs to start out with a location which does not bring negative attention. Thanks for the consideration. Roger Larson 2
