Admittedly, homelessness is a huge, difficult problem. I appreciate that most homeless
people are not there by choice, rather the result of generational trauma, addiction, mental
health, physical health, loss of a job, the high cost of housing, or all of the above. And I
appreciate the City is trying to do something to ease this real and difficult problem. I
support the effort.
I, however, do not feel overnight parking adjacent to residential housing is an
appropriate solution. The end of Palm is too close to people's homes. It is unrealistic to
think that overnight campers will be good neighbors. I can not imagine the hotels and
restaurants will appreciate the new presence in the neighborhood either.
These folks have vehicles, it would be better to park them in a more isolated
location. They do deserve help and human understanding, but parking them downtown is
not a good solution.
