Subject: City Council Public Hearing Item 1; 1327 Osos Street; June 10, 2014
Dear Mayor Marx, Council Members, City Clerk, City Attorney, City Manager, Assistant City Manager and
Economic Development Manager,
I was hoping to be in attendance at the Public Hearing tomorrow night; however I have a prior commitment
and cannot be there to express my opinion regarding the pending project at the described property: 1327
Osos Street in San Luis Obispo.
I have attached a letter written by my husband and I that states our thoughts on the project. Thank you.
Sam and Christie Clemons
Dear Mayor Marx and Council Members,
Re: City Council Public Hearing Item 1,; 1327 Osos Street; June 10, 2014
My husband and I have lived in downtown San Luis Obispo for over 10 years, and have an
appreciation for the character, convenience, and lifestyle downtown SLO stands for. I'm active
in the local real estate community and on numerous local real estate, business, and charitable
committees, and have reviewed the details of this project through business acquaintances and by
following the public process. In both the personal and business contexts in which I've reviewed
this project, my husband and I support the project for the following reasons:
• Investing in underutilized land promotes economic prosperity, and is in -line with the
City's long range goals stated in the Land Use Element, Housing Element, Climate Action
Plan, and Economic Development Strategic Plan.
• Contemporary design at this location honors the neighboring historic architecture by
providing the contrast necessary for historical context.
• Innovative land -use in the downtown core enhances the character of our City.
• Density and mixed -use supports the downtowns vision of a pedestrian oriented core, as
well as goals stated in the City's Climate Action Plan.
• By bringing residences closer to office space, mixed -use development can reduce the
distance traveled for jobs, goods and services, and diminish transportation- related GHG
emissions.
• Change and development of our downtown will allow for the City to continue to flourish
for future generations.
We hope you will support this innovative and elegant development solution for this downtown
parking lot.
Thanks you for your consideration,
Samuel and Christie Clemons
