HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-10-2014 A1 TBID AppointmentsCity of San Luis Obispo, Council Agenda Report, Meeting Date, Item Number FROM: Anthony Mejia, City Clerk Prepared By: Heather Goodwin, Deputy City Clerk SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE TOURISM BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT BOARD (TBID) RECOMMENDATION In accordance with the recommendations of the Council Subcommittees, make appointments to the City’s Advisory Body as follows: 1) Appoint John Conner to the Tourism Business Improvement District Board (TBID) effective June 10, 2014, and expiring on March 31, 2015. 2) Appoint Michael Adams to the Tourism Business Improvement District Board (TBID) effective June 10, 2014, and expiring on March 31, 2017. DISCUSSION Due to the resignation of Rachel Patranella, effective March 31, 2014, there was an unscheduled vacancy on the Tourism Business Improvement District Board. Ms. Patranella’s term would have expired March 31, 2015. Due to the resignation of Terry Westrope, effective April 24, 2014, there was an unscheduled vacancy on the Tourism Business Improvement District Board. Mr. Westrope’s term would have expired March 31, 2017. Staff posted the Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy as required and advertised for interested citizens to apply. The Council Subcommittee is pleased to recommend the appointments of John Conner to the Tourism Business Improvement District Board, term ending March 31, 2015 and Michael Adams to the Tourism Business Improvement District Board, term ending March 31, 2017. Agenda Correspondence AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW IN THE COUNCIL OFFICE A hard copy of TBID applications has been provided to the City Council and is available for public review in the City Clerk's office. \\chstore6\team\council agenda reports\2014\2014-06-10\tbid appointments (mejia)\council agenda report.docx June 10, 2014 A1 A1 - 1 1 Mejia, Anthony Subject:RE: TBID Interview Reminder From: Pragna Patel-Mueller [mailto:pragna@samatamanagement.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 27, 2014 8:43 PM To: Goodwin, Heather; Cano, Molly Cc: Kremke, Kate Subject: RE: TBID Interview Reminder   Good Evening,     TBID Board Member and City Council Members,    Heather & Molly please confirm that you have forwarded my email to TBID board and City Council Board .    Today 5/27/14    Due to my circumstance I missed the interview call by 2 minutes since I was assisting my mother.   I called back but no  one at the Administration Office knew where the interviews were being conducted.  The receptionist then transferred  me to HR department, Katie’s  line was going to voicemail .  I called again on the line 805‐781‐7119 the call was picked  up by Administration Office Receptionists, I asked again to see if they could let the Chair of TBID and the Councilman  know that I was on the line, again they had no knowledge where the interviews were being conducted. At this point I  was again transferred to HR Katie’s line.    Prior to today:    I had requested of Katie when she called to schedule on May 21, 2014 (just before a three day weekend were most of  hotelier work!)  for an interview on Tuesday 5/27/14, at this point I had asked that I be given any option of different  date since I would be in San Jose due to my mother surgery. If you need verification I will provide the Hospital Surgery  Papers. The surgery was scheduled weeks ahead.  At this point was told that I either take the appointment or not.  So  there was absolutely no option for another day.  If it was a business meeting I would have rearranged the meeting to  comply with the demands of time option provided by the interviewers. But, it was my family, my mother not just a day  to day business meeting!    I find it incredible that if I needed to make an appointment with city council I would have to make an appointment well  in advance of 3 days.  It is not a reasonable expectation for any business person to be given an option of one day and 3 times, 15 minutes  apart to be interviewed. This is a voluntary position not a paid position. The inflexibility of the interview process  to an  applicant limits and eliminate potential applicants.        Please reconsider me to be interviewed, where I can actually can  be present.      Thank You      Pragna Patel‐Mueller  Samata Management, Inc.  604 Henderson Avenue, Suite 200  San Luis Obispo, CA  93401  P. 805‐544‐5651 F. 805‐597‐5199  A1 - 2 2   From: Goodwin, Heather [mailto:hgoodwin@slocity.org] Sent: Tuesday, May 27, 2014 8:44 AM To: 'Pragna Patel-Mueller' Cc: Kremke, Kate Subject: TBID Interview Reminder Importance: High   Hello Pragna - You have been scheduled for an Advisory Body Conference Call Interview on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 4:45 pm.
