SLO Cultural Heritage Committee,
I'm reaching out to you with concerns on the proposed 3-story residential building at 1601 Osos and appealing to you to
help uphold the historical esthetics of our neighborhood.
I'm the property owner and resident of the 1900 Victorian Cottage located at 1005 Islay (directly across the street from
1601 Osos). I purchased my home in 2018 because of my love for our town and its history; I poured significant research,
time and money into restoring it to its original beauty. Islay is one of our most historical streets with countless Victorian
and Craftmen homes (none above 2-stories). Although I have no objections for the development of more residential
homes in our neighborhood, I'm opposed to a building that does not fit our historical esthetics especially one that stands
3-stories tall towering over all others on the street; hence blocking views of our beautiful landscapes, sun to our
historical trees, and eliminating our privacy with windows that can look directly into the neighboring private backyards.
Additionally we sit on Osos, a main artery into downtown. As visitors and residence drive into our downtown historic
district, they should be greeted by buildings and homes that have the SLO historical appearance we strive so hard to
preserve. Not a towering building out of place from its neighbors.
I have provided pictures below. As you review the proposal, I ask that you think about these pictures and ask does the
proposed building fit in with a neighborhood and homes like its neighbor 1005 Islay.
