Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Hello SLO Cultural Heritage Committee, I’m writing to express my concerns about a 3 story residential building that is being proposed for the site at 1601 Osos St. My wife Nicole and I purchased the home at 1005 Islay Street in 2018, which is directly across the street from 1601 Osos. As a Cal Poly alum, it was always a dream to move back to SLO and own a Victorian house in the Historic District. When the opportunity came up to buy and fix up our dream home, we jumped at the chance! We’ve spent several years restoring our home back to its original 1900 glory and helping to improve our neighborhood. We were also able to expand on the property and now have a 1 bedroom ADU to offer an attractive living option near downtown for current & future SLO residents. While I am excited about the potential of renovation at 1601 Osos, I am very concerned about the fact that the new construction is proposed as a 3 story building. There are no other 3 story buildings in our Historic neighborhood, and it seems like this would go against the Heritiage Committee’s goal of retaining the beauty & charm of our neighborhood’s aesthetic. In addition, I have the following concerns related directly to our property:  Any 3 story construction at 1601 would directly block the view of Mission Peak from our ADU, which is a big selling point and would reduce the value of the property, costing us financially over time.  Any 3 story construction would greatly reduce our privacy, as the new building would look directly down into our backyard. We do not have the option to build a higher fence, nor can we plant privacy trees due to the location of our water & sewage lines. For your review, I’ve included a photo of our home when we bought it in 2018, and how it looks today. I’ve also included a photo of how the new construction will affect our view from our backyard and how the sightline will eliminate our privacy. Thank you for your consideration, and I would appreciate any feedback on how our concerns may be addressed. We love SLO, and hope to continue to live our dream of retiring here with the aesthetic and integrity of our Historic district intact!
