FROM: Anthony Mejia, City Clerk
SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH REGULAR CLOSED
SESSION MEETING DATES AND TIME
RECOMMENDATIONS
Adopt Ordinance No. 1601 entitled “An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of San Luis
Obispo, California, amending the San Luis Obispo Municipal Code Chapter 2.04 (Council
Meeting) to modify Regular Meeting times.”
DISCUSSION
Background
On May 20, 2014, the Council voted 4-1 (with Council Member Ashbaugh voting no) to
introduce Ordinance No. 1601 (2014 Series) to amend Chapter 2.04 pf the Municipal Code
related to Council Meetings. This modification would provide for the establishment of regular
meetings for Closed Session at 5:00 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month or at such
other time as may be designated on a regular open session meeting notice posted at the same
time and in the same manner as regular open session meeting notices. In the event that a closed
session is unnecessary for a particular meeting, a notice of cancellation will be posted.
FISCAL IMPACT
Costs to codify the amendments were already anticipated in the City Clerk
Records/Administration budget. Therefore, final adoption of the ordinance will not result in a
significant financial impact.
