Re: Agenda Item 5.b 2023-24 DEI HIGH IMPACT GRANT FUNDING RECOMMENDATION
To Chair Dusty Colyer-Worth and Human Relations Commissioners,
Please accept our support of the recommendation for funding of the Diversity Coalition of SLO County’s BIPOC Board
Leadership Training Program.
Finding qualified board members is a challenge that affects all nonprofits in all sectors. As the guiding arm for
nonprofits, board members are foundational to the success of an organization. The efforts of the Diversity Coalition of
SLO through their training program will help strengthen the missions of many nonprofits in San Luis Obispo by raising up
future board members who can lead with a lense of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
As an organization that faces the challenge of preconceived notions about what classical music is, we are bringing
awareness of the diversity of composers we perform and soloists we feature, and we are also making classical music
more accessible to a broader audience. As part of these efforts, we have collaborated with the Diversity Coalition, value
them as a trusted partner, and know they will make qualified stewards of grant funding.
Thank you,
Rachel Cementina Sabalboro
