SPECIAL MEETING AND CLOSED SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
HYBRID MEETING PARTICIPATION INSTRUCTIONS:

computer or mobile device. As this is a Special Meeting, public comment will only be
accepted for item(s) listed on the agenda. Press the “raise your hand” button when the
comment period on your item of interest begins. You will be notified when you’ve been
unmuted and it’s your turn to speak. Comments are limited to 3-minutes.

1.CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Erica A. Stewart will call the Special Meeting and Closed Session of the San Luis
Obispo City Council to order.
2.PUBLIC COMMENT FOR ITEMS ON THE AGENDA ONLY

3.CLOSED SESSION ITEM
3.a CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL – EXISTING LITIGATION (Estimated
Time: 15 minutes)
Paragraph (1) of subdivision (d) of Government Code §54956.9; Name of case:
Richard W. Ferris, as Trustee of the Richard W. & Sharliss S. Ferris Trust, v. City of
San Luis Obispo; San Luis Obispo Superior Court Case No. 23CV-0467.
4.CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSION ITEMS
4.a DISCUSSION ON COUNCIL INTERNS (Estimated Time: 35 minutes)
Discussion on the concept of hiring interns to assist City Council Members. Staff will
provide a brief presentation on applicable personnel administration language from
the City's Charter and Municipal Code.
4.b DISCUSSION ON THE CITY'S VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (Estimated Time: 35
minutes)
The City’s Volunteer Coordinator, Kiersten Anderson, will provide a brief educational
overview of the City’s volunteer program and give a navigation demonstration of the
recently launched “Engage SLO” volunteer website (volunteer.slocity.org). Council
will be able to ask questions and have discussion.
5.ADJOURNMENT
The next Regular Meeting of the City Council will be held on November 7, 2023 at 5:30 p.m.
in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo.
