Theresa Kaiser,
Thank you for reaching out to City Council on this topic. Your correspondence has been delivered directly to
them.
We recognize that new parking rates and other downtown parking changes have been challenging for some
community members. We all want to support a thriving, vibrant downtown and we also need to cover the costs
of managing and maintaining public parking services downtown. The good news is that City Council will
consider near-term solutions on Tuesday, November 7 to provide relief from new rates, including staff’s
recommendation to resume the one-hour free in downtown parking structures.
Your comment is being placed in the Public Archive for that meeting. That evening, Council will also discuss
conducting a parking rate study to recommend long-term solutions in the spring that will help ensure that
parking downtown remains accessible and affordable. Here is the link to Agenda Item 6a. In the first
attachment for that item, please see page 8 of 14 to review several near-term interim relief options up for
consideration.

For me the new parking rates and naviga?ng the technology is a deal breaker for visi?ng downtown. My friend and I
paid $8 for parking to go to picking daisies and having a quick lunch in the Creamery. We were smarter seeing a movie
with a friend at Downtown Cinemas. We met at SLO public market, drove downtown together for the movie then went
back to SLO public market to have lunch. Now we will come up to Atascadero where I live and see our movies with free
parking and eat lunch at one of the new restaurants in A-Town. This is a win win for businesses having free parking and a
lose-lose for Downtown SLO. Check out what they do in Downtown Ventura.
