I am a long-time resident of San Luis Obispo and am extremely unhappy about recent changes to parking rates and
parking payment protocols in the downtown area.
I love shopping, entertainment, and dining options in downtown San Luis Obispo, and it absolutely pains me to see your
related parking policies killing downtown businesses that are already struggling in the wake of COVID restrictions and
online transaction alternatives.
I worry about businesses like the Palm Theater that have worked hard to keep admission costs affordable, and now are
faced with parking fees that exceed ticket prices.
If doubling parking rates is absolutely needed (which sincerely I doubt) then at least make payment simple.
You have my license plate number, my address, and my credit card information - simply scan my license number when I
enter a parking structure and again when I depart - then bill my card for the appropriate amount of time - make it easy
for the customer - the technology exists - use it - don't ask me to project how much to pay in advance - most of the time
I do not know how long I plan to stay.
I refuse to park in the Palm St structure under the current system - and will simply avoid shopping and dining downtown
altogether if and when the other structures adopt a similar format.
Fix this now before more downtown businesses are forced to close.
