San Luis Obispo City Council,
I have lived in San Luis Obispo for 70 years, coming from Brooklyn, NY, then to Atascadero in 1951 and
finally to San Luis Obispo in 1953.
At age 74 there isn’t a lot I need that I can’t get at Target, Costco, Whiz kids for grandchildren and the
many businesses outside downtown. I look for free shipping from stores such as Williams-Sonoma and
Pottery Barn when buying holiday gifts. If I have a store pick up at a downtown store my husband drops
me off and circles the block before picking me up.
When getting together with my many family members or retired public school teacher friends, we chose
restaurants and coffee shops that are not downtown. The San Luis Public Market has become a favorite
gathering spot.
I, like many local residents, will continue to avoid the downtown area due to the inconvenience of paying
for parking at a kiosk, the difficulty signing up online for the “local one hour free” but mostly for the high
cost.
It is unfortunate that local business owners and their employees are being hurt.
Thank you,
Gracie Tedone Manderscheid
