Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. I need to discuss SLO downtown parking with someone responsible for it soon, before I burst. Basically your decisions with downtown over the last several years are purely stupid. Does any one of the city planners have any idea what they are doing? 1. You took away at least 2 great parking lots in great locations to put up hotels. Really? High end hotels. Now you say oh since our parking lots are gone the residents of SLO need to help us PAY for new parking lots by increasing parking rates. Four dollars an hour?? Til 9PM? Every day of the week? Seriously?? You couldn’t get tax revenue from these hotels to pay for that? I’m also going to remind you that visitors staying in high end hotels are not going to be water conservationists. By a long shot. But that’s another problem. Back to parking. You took NO PROBLEM and turned it into BIG PROBLEM. There is no way I’m going to pay your parking rates to park downtown. There is nowhere I want to go that badly that would make me do that. I just go to Costco, Target, and Kohls. And Amazon. My older daughter lives in Carlsbad Ca. Beautiful city. Good weather like here. But the city seems to like it’s residents. I moved to SLO in 1975 from LA and loved the small town charm of it. I loved walking, shopping, eating there. That is now gone. I don’t want to go downtown any more. My son lives on Dana Street in an apartment complex. You have totally screwed that up for him and us as his family. He gets one parking space in his lot because he has a one bedroom apt. No guest parking. So if I or his sisters or ANYONE wants to visit him where do we park? Dana Street is permit parking only and several hundred dollars per quarter. So to park and stay we have to park several blocks away. Sure hope I don’t have to carry anything all that way. Meals, groceries , gifts, etc. And will you guarantee the safety of me or my daughter walking back those several blocks to our car at night? Probably not. Again, what I want to say is there didn’t used to be a problem. Now there is and it appears to be the city planners doing. I don’t know you but I don’t think you should be in the positions you’re in. You’ve ruined San Luis Obispo. Thanks. You may call it progress but often progress takes you to the edge of a cliff. Maybe over it. Gail Lankes. Resident of the city of SLO for 47 years. 1
