Sadly its no longer the the quiet charming place it used to be! I could go on and on but I’ll s?ck to the parking fee subject for now. It’s hard enough to find decent parking downtown as a result of numerous loading zones and all the new bicycle “improvements”. Now adding the burden of $4 an hour to park has driven me away from dining and shopping downtown. It used to be so convenient to park in the structures or know that enforcement only lasted un?l 6pm and go to dinner knowing you could relax and not worry about feed a meter or moving your vehicle. Now I’ve received a cita?on at 7:30 pm for being a few minutes late to my vehicle as I was visi?ng friends at a restaurant downtown. Not only did I pay $ 9+ for parking then I had a $40 fine on top of that! Outrageous! That added $50 to what was a lovely ?me with friends. I’m re?red and don’t have that extra money to throw at a new parking structure. I worked at University Police and Parking Services at Cal Poly for many years and understand your funding restric?ons but why even a?empt building a new structure when there con?nue to be more and more empty businesses downtown? How about crea?ng a shu?le service from various neighborhoods to downtown and back? We have a huge popula?on of re?rees, since we’re the only ones that can afford to live here anymore (another sad fact). It would take cars off the road and be a needed service. And while you’re at it close down a few blocks of Higuera to pedestrians only to make downtown more invi?ng and maybe get more businesses interested in opening there. Sorry this is so long but I love my community and now I feel our city leaders don’t really care about the residents any longer. It’s unbelievable!
