City leadership-
I'm a bit concerned about street parking in downtown SLO. I worry that the businesses are perhaps going to suffer with
the recent changes in street parking. I realize that there is some desire by city leadership to have people park in garages,
but it's already affected my routine because it's more expensive to park downtown and I can seldom find a spot any
longer. Sometimes parking in the garage isn't worth the additional wait time, driving around, etc. I don't spend as much
time downtown any longer because the additional burden is sometimes too much. Sometimes I want to just go to
Michael's to get my glasses adjusted, grab a coffee at Scout, etc., and don't want to spend 15 minutes parking in the
structure or $1.35 for 15 minutes of parking time.
Furthermore, I'd ask that you consider making it more user-friendly toward older people. My mom is a SLO resident and
doesn't go downtown any longer because she can't figure out how to use the mobile parking apps. The kiosk touch
screens aren't much better for older residents. It's a real concern. Just this week, my mom suggested meeting me
somewhere "outside of downtown" because she didn't want to figure out how to park and not get ticketed. Parking
meters were easy enough, but the new system inhibits access for older residents.
Thanks for the consideration. Access is important to me and the hurdles are just a little bit too high for older residents.
