Hello City Council,
I know you are considering changes to the parking structure for the City of SLO, and I urge you to dial it back --
and make it less confusing for the seniors and tourists who always seem to stop and ask me how and what.
Top priorities, in my opinion, are to bring back the first free hour of parking. I no longer make the effort to pop
in to a local shop or swing by the library; it has become cost-prohibitive and too frustrating for me when I can
go elsewhere (like the Madonna Center or Los Osos).
Secondly, the extension of parking hours from 6pm to 9pm has also made it more than is worth it to, say, pick
up my partner from work and stay in town for dinner or pop over for Concerts in the Plaza.
I used to live downtown, so hadn't really noticed the parking fees. Now that I live further out, yet still work in
the community (and rideshare with my partner, who has a downtown business), it is really just a pain and
more than I want to spend or fiddle with. Also, on that point, when I drop off my partner in the morning, the
parking police chase me off. This is disappointing, as we are trying to do our part to reduce our carbon
footprint. Please just allow us two minutes for a quick drop-off when there is space available and no traffic.
Thank you for your consideration.
