Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. I am unhappy with the high cost of parking downtown. You have raised the cost of parking ostensibly to pay for a new parking garage, which won’t be needed at this rate if the downtown becomes a ghost town. And a policy of one free hour at one garage, for residents only, will not provide the customer base needed by existing businesses and organizations to survive, nor will it attract new ones. One sorry example: my husband and I went to see a movie on Marsh St. The parking fee at the Marsh St garage was like paying for a third theater seat. We did not even consider staying longer and having dinner downtown afterwards. My suggestion: make 4 hr parking free for everyone in all three public garages; impose high fees/ fines for cars parked over 4 hours or left overnight. Halve the charge for street parking (and clearly indicate the downtown curbs where parking is allowed and payment for parking is required). With these changes maybe the fourth proposed garage will end up actually being needed for a newly re-energized downtown. - Mary Ann Carcich, SLO city resident 1
