I live near the Mission and frequently eat in downtown restaurants, take yoga classes at The Center, and shop downtown. Therefore, you may be surprised that I share the community's outrage at the parking rate increases. I am well aware that a vibrant downtown relies on the willingness of tourists and locals to pay the price of parking; there is a sweet spot that clearly the City Council has exceeded with the recent parking fee increases. The general consensus, a perspective I share, is that the new fees are excessive and harmful to our downtown businesses. This is not the first time that the City Council has been ridiculously out of touch with what our community needs and wants. Since the new parking fees have gone into effect, I have met my friends and coworkers outside the downtown core for coffee and meals. I am uncomfortable suggesting a meeting spot that will cost my friends and coworkers an unreasonable amount in parking fees. The downtown is my neighborhood and it breaks my heart to see your poor decisions jeopardize its future. I hope that you will listen to the community's anger and frustration!
