Dear City Council Members,
As a citizen of San Luis Obispo, I want to convey my concerns with the parking situation as follows:
The rates are immensely too high and definitely not a sign of welcoming locals/tourists, etc., to support
downtown businesses.
The lengthening of parking meter charges after 6 pm is not welcoming and/or accommodating for people
who want to spend a nice evening and support local
restaurants, and businesses, and/or attend events, etc.
It’s unwelcoming to expect people to pay for parking on Sundays especially if they have needs for extended
time for religious services, public events, etc.
Giving tickets to merchants whose vehicle is parked in loading zones for an extended period is not
supporting the efforts of business people who may be unloading
and/or attending to the needs of their businesses.
Expanding permit-only parking throughout downtown is unacceptable.
To resolve these parking issues and provide a vibrant and welcoming spirit to locals/tourists, etc., and support
businesses I highly suggest the following:
Lower hourly rates to $2.00 per hour or less
Return to free parking after 6 pm
Return to free parking on ALL SUNDAYS and HOLIDAYS
Do not expand parking permits beyond already designated streets
The parking situation is a popular item in conversations I have with many family and friends. The cost of parking is
unnecessarily high and the lack of hospitality is definitely dismal and uninviting with all the costs and restrictions.
If you value our downtown, our community, and our business owners, it would be greatly appreciated if the above
changes be made immediately. In doing so, I am sure that a genuine and authentic welcoming spirit encouraging and
inviting us to go downtown would truly be appreciated.
I appreciate your service to San Luis Obispo and look forward to your response.
Thank you,
Mary Kaney Holliday
