My wife (teacher at CL Smith) and I own a home and live in San Luis Obispo with our daughter. We are long time
residents and will be a part of this community for years to come.
We are extremely unhappy with the new parking downtown. We used to go for casual outings, but the price (even with
a slight discount for local residents) has deterred us more than once from going downtown. The previous system of free
time at any downtown structure along with cheap rates of closer to $3 an hour made it easy for us in the past. Now if I
want to meet a friend for a beer, grab a coffee, or stop for a quick bite to eat I am paying up to 1/2 the cost of these
small amenities in parking alone. Horrible for locals!!!
Possible Solutions:
1) give locals 2 hrs free.
2) if not 2 hours free, at least discount parking back to the $3hr for locals.
3) reduce prices all around as I’m sure it deters tourists from wanting to stop in town without reasonable costs for
parking.
