It’s already challenging enough to have any desire to go downtown - I don’t feel safe bringing my young family because we constantly are walking by mentally unstable individuals. Then to top that off, parking rates have gotten insane. We used to go to the Marsh street parking garage and park 2 hours for $1.50. The other day, I parked for 1 hour and 2 minutes and it cost me $6. Give me a reason to try and come downtown and support my local shops? Because the reasons are dwindling. It already feels much less safe than it used to (have lived here over 15 years), and apparently parking is just another way to rip its patrons off. It was always a nice perk that the parking meters had free hours on certain days and times and now that’s long gone, too. Read the room. Please find a balance. Don’t kill the lure of the sweet town of SLO. Even if it’s just gifting people with affordable parking. These seemingly small things matter to us locals. Thank you for your time. -Meredith Grandquist (& family), SLO home owner and resident 1
