During the pandemic the parklets took over downtown, cutting off parking to other small businesses. Some have been removed and parking spaces returned. Then came the price raise. Pretty significant raise! $4.00 an hour is a lot for parking. And there’s already a short supply of parking. It seems the city has no regard for small businesses in the downtown corridor. I understand the issue of funding for new parking but you’re strangling the businesses downtown. My DIL owns a biz on Higuera and between the economy and parking business is down. I live in Atascadero and I know when I talk about going to SLO most locals tell me they never go to SLO anymore due to parking. The expense and lack of is always the issue. Another case in point, my son has a biz in the Creamery Marketplace. Already very little parking in that area. Now building a 30 unit apartment complex. Where will they park? Ideally there is a need of about 80 parking spaces to support the marketplace and all the businesses in there. These restaurants and shops are getting a bad deal at the hand of decision makers in the city! Parking needs not to be a stream of revenue the city relies on! Figure it out…. Support small businesses in SLO!!! Higuera is looking pretty sad. Biz after biz leaving. Melinda Luce Sent from my iPhone 1
