I am a resident of Arroyo Grande. I used to love to shop, dine and stroll in downtown SLO but the parking issues have
made it quite an expensive chore. I once parked in a 2 hour street space and had lunch in a nearby restaurant that was
unusually busy. It took some time to pay the bill so ran over to feed the meter again only to find the meter had run out
less than five minutes ago. I found it incredible that the meter person was already there and issuing a ticket! I said I’m
here and he just laughed and said wow, you could have come 2 minutes earlier and put in just a nickel. Now you have
to pay $70!!! So rude and also made me think that these tickets are being used as city income…hoe is it that he was just
there within minutes?
I then was happy to find the lot across from the children’s museum and Palm. I could park there for a fraction of the cost
in the parking garage. But now that’s blocked off and will be yet another expensive parking garage.
I want to support our small local businesses but I can’t always afford the extra expense of parking in town. No longer
able to stroll and take my time enjoying finding new restaurants or shops. There had to be a better answer!
Sincerely
Liz Wilkes
