Please con?nue to inves?gate op?ons to loosen the parking restric?ons, and do not increase fees. Please consider
op?ons to provide locals parking allowances of a free hour a week to encourage our ability to patronize our wonderful
downtown without fear of a $50-70 ?cket and providing our community members who work downtown a safe and
economical op?on to park close to their employment. I recently a?ended a wedding at the Dalidet Adobe on a Sunday
a?ernoon and returned to my car (parked on Pacific which was almost en?rely empty at that ?me) to a $50 ?cket for
overstaying past 2 hours. I was not taking up space needed for residents, I was not parked in the downtown core
preven?ng others from parking in a reasonable loca?on. I understand needing to jus?fy the staff cost of a parking
a?endant patrolling on a Sunday, but the ques?on needs to be asked and duly considered if the City has gone too far in
the wrong direc?on to the detriment of our community.
I am a second genera?on SLO local, who was able to move back to town a?er a short s?nt in Los Angeles County where I
lived in Claremont, La Verne, and worked for the City of San Dimas. All three of those were small towns, where the
walkability and ease of parking in the downtowns allowed those communi?es to support many small businesses with
primarily local support. That there were s?ll places to park on the weekends or off ?mes where one could easily go see
a movie or eat at a restaurant without fear of a ?cket was so wonderful to me. I am the unhappy recipient of several
parking ?ckets now, while I try to be diligent and ensure I pay correctly, it s?ll seems I cannot go three months without
another ?cket.
I understand the fiscal difficul?es of a municipality, but implore you to give weight to what your downtown merchants
and locals are imploring you to do, and consider more crea?vity as to how to encourage downtown patronage by giving
local customers and staff working downtown considera?on of free or reduced parking rather than use them to fund
another parking structure while crea?ng parking issues in residen?al neighborhoods as staff have to go further and
further to afford to go to work.
