Dear SLO City Council Members,
For a few years now, I have avoided going into the SLO downtown area.
1. The unhoused with mental issues that roam the downtown area.
2. Parking fees have skyrocketed.
3. The downtown sidewalks have been filthy and unkempt.
I have been a resident of San Luis Obispo since 1994, and have seen the gradual and now since COVID the
expedited slide of our once vibrant downtown.
I used to shop and window shop downtown regularly, but not anymore. It is too dirty, depressing, and parking is too
expensive for the value received now for going downtown.
Since I was a regular shopper downtown, I have friends who work there and own businesses there. Those people
pleaded with me to write to you, because they are concerned for their safety, their customers safety, and the future of
their businesses. They have seen a big drop in customers and therefore revenue due to the above three reasons.
Please take action to reduce the cost of parking, clean up the sidewalks, and discourage the unhoused from loitering
downtown.
Sincerely,
Kristine Carlin
